They have a high metabolic rate.
Therefore they need lots of high quality food to sustain their heath, growth and warmth.
Sphynx do require a warm environment.
Sphynx nails grow rapidly. They need trimming weekly.
They produce a waxie substance from their skin. This needs attention. Bathing twice weekly is sufficient. You need to bath them in a warm shallow bath, using an exfoliating sponge to wash them. Use a baby wash product for sensitive skin also.
As well as producing all the above, they also produce ear wax. This sometimes needs ear drops (from the vet) to disperse, however cleaning with a cotton bud on the outer ear , after bathing, is often all that's required.
Sphynx have a build up of grease (sebum) around their claws. This needs attention twice weekly. This if untreated can cause ulcers and very sore toes. If left too long, this may need treatment from your vet!
Between the pads of their paws and under their paws dirt builds up, so this needs cleaning too, with a baby wipe or moist cotton wool, after bathing.
They can suffer from runny eye/s. This is due to waxie substances sometimes blocking their tear ducts. Its not a problem but just like their ears, clean regularly and you can use Broelen eye drops to elevate the symptoms.
As they eat lots they poo lots. Sphynx can be prone to having runny tummies, as the food transits quickly (re that high metabolic rate). So regular attention to their litter tray is essential.
Sphynx (due to being kept warm) drink lots too. So water fountains are good thing, with a filter, but not essential. Topping up water and changing water daily is.
They need their annual boosters from the vet.
They are strictly house cats.
Many catteries do not have facilities for Sphynx. A house sitter is the favored option, or a 'pet visiting' service at your home, in your absence. My daughter does provide Sphynx accommodation, should you not be able to find a solution to your Sphynx being looked after when you go away.
Sphynx are both demanding and clumsy.
Sphynx are the best thing in the world. Life would be dull without a Sphynx. Knowing love, trust and true companionship by beholding a Sphynx. All the tasks above accounts for nothing, Sphynx give more than they could possibly take. However have your eyes open to the what is associated in owning one of these 'Ohhh' so unique babies.

Bathing your Sphynx, however may transpire to be laborious, bending over the bath. Some Sphynx are easer to care for than others, some need more care than others. So care, your patients and time permitting, are all factors when deciding upon a Sphynx.
